A letter to an eating disorder.
Written by someone who survived it.
If any part of this felt familiar, you are not alone. And you don’t have to keep saying yes to something that was never on your side.
What would you say in your letter? ❤️
“Why don’t you just eat?”
It’s one of the most common things families say. And it comes from love, not cruelty.
But eating disorders aren’t oppositional. They aren’t a choice. They are a real illness that affects the brain, the thyroid, the kidneys, sodium, potassium, and yes, even the heart.
There’s even something called refeeding syndrome, where eating too fast after starvation can cause seizures and organ damage. The body has to relearn how to eat safely.
That’s why education matters. For patients. For families. For everyone who loves someone who is struggling.
What questions do you have about eating disorders that nobody has answered honestly?
Feeling anxious about eating in treatment is one of the most common things we see, and one of the least talked about.
Most people come in knowing they need help. But sitting down at a meal, in a room full of strangers, following a meal plan for the first time, is a completely different experience than wanting to get better.
The anxiety is real. The fear is real. And it does not mean you are doing it wrong.
It means your nervous system is responding to something it has been in conflict with for a long time.
Our job is not to force you through it. Our job is to sit with you in it, help you understand what your body is experiencing, and build the trust that makes the next meal a little more possible than the last one.
Recovery does not start when the anxiety goes away. It starts when you choose to show up anyway.
What would you want someone to have told you before your first meal in treatment?
This is where healing begins.
Every room here was designed with one thing in mind: creating a space where you can finally exhale. Where recovery feels less like treatment and more like coming home.
Waterfront. Warm. Built for the hardest and most important journey of your life.
If you or someone you love is ready to take the next step, everything you need is in our bio. ❤️ 🏳️🌈 ⚧️

We hear this question a lot… do eating disorders run in families?
The answer is yes, they can. Genetics, environment, and learned patterns can all play a role.
But here’s what matters most: even if there’s a family history, there is support, and recovery is possible.
At Remedy, we help individuals and families understand what’s underneath and how to move forward in a healthier way.
