Last week, The Bullvine ran an article on the challenges of silage changes - I'll share this real time situation with you:
Around June 3rd is when the farmer nears the end of his Haylage bag (5' -10' left). Milk loss occurs shortly after, about 4 #/cow. Butterfat also reacts negatively because of the disruption.
The farmer and I's solution to address this was to start blending new silage sooner and partitioning the last few feet of the silage bag to young stock.
