Respect is a fundamental core of friendship and partnerships. It is rooted in the practice of accountability and union with the self to heal, grow and build community.

For many Indigenous Nations, repatriation is about far more than returning objects—it’s about bringing ancestors home with dignity and respect.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, more than 2,600 Native American ancestors and over 35,800 associated funerary objects have already been repatriated to Tribes, Native Hawaiian organizations, and lineal descendants through the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).

The work is ongoing. As museums, universities, and federal agencies continue reviewing their collections under updated NAGPRA regulations, additional repatriation notices are being published and more ancestors and sacred belongings are returning to the communities from which they were taken.

For many Tribal Nations, every successful repatriation represents an important step toward cultural healing, respect for ancestral traditions, and the restoration of Indigenous sovereignty over sacred heritage.

Honoring ancestors begins with respect—what are your thoughts? 🪶

What if every child had access to hands-on learning experiences that sparked curiosity, built confidence, and prepared them for the future?

At Taos Learning Lab, we believe that education should be engaging, meaningful, and accessible to all. Through STEM, robotics, arts, culture, outdoor education, and community-based learning, we help young people develop the skills they need to become creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and community leaders.
