So many bleps for our first day back after a full week off! Happy to be back helping out the pets of Taylor and surrounding area!

Things are quiet this week as I’m actually on vacation in the Pacific Northwest! But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to hit the ground running when I get back.

BARTLETT! We have lots of cat appointments available for “pay what you can” spay/neuter surgery on June 18th.

You must:
- make an appointment and receive confirmation
- have a Bartlett address
- drop off between 8 and 8:30 am (behind city hall)
- pick up by 4 pm

Just finished a 13.5 hr work day at The Empty Shelter Project-Texas in Splendora! As usual, it was a jam packed day of free spay/neuter. The appointment slots filled in FIFTEEN minutes of opening. And every dog crate was filled (sometimes a lot of people sign up but don’t show up). This area clearly has a big need!!

If only we could all sleep as deeply as Rosie! 😍 She will be up for adoption soon if you want your own house pig!

Today we learned that the bus won’t start if you leave the head lights on all day 😬😭

Woo, today was a doozy.

It started with a very sweet, but very injured shelter cat. We have no idea how she managed to damage all of her feet but she was found on a construction site so who knows. We’ve been treating her wounds for the last 2 days but today it became clear she also had a pyometra (potentially fatal uterine infection). So off to surgery to debride her wounds and to remove her infected uterus!

Then we moved on to our 100 lb Newfoundland spay! Woo!

The day ticked along with the rest of our 20 regular surgeries. Just when we were done, a patient from 2 weeks ago (!) who had previously opened his neuter incision during a scuffle with another dog, completely opened it today and had “stuff” hanging out. So of course we said to bring him right over for a revision surgery!!

And just after that got arranged, we got a phone call from another clinic with a referral for an emergency pyometra on a young cat!! She is only 10 months old. This is one of the reasons why we harp about spaying them before their first heat…

Anyway, both emergency surgeries went well! But it was a loooong day!

Had a little non-routine surgery fun today!

Eye injuries can very quickly lead to an emergency. Coco’s eye was slightly red Thursday, a little swollen on Friday, and was seen by a vet Monday. Today, the eye ruptured.

It can be really hard to tell when it goes from “hmm, wonder why she got in her eye?” to “get the vet ASAP!!”

Sometimes the littlest of injuries leads to catastrophic damage, and it happens FAST. And even with medical intervention, it doesn’t always mean the eye can be saved.

Fortunately for Coco’s owner, I’m a sucker for a cool surgery and had a cancellation this morning so I had time to immediately jump on the case and she drove straight from the referring veterinarian.

With the eye gone, she is already acting less painful! Coco should have a swift recovery!

Is you actually a spicy meatball or just full of silly noises? Ok, ok, I believe you have some jalapeño mixed in there!

Here’s our schedule for June!

Spay/neuter is “pay what you can” and is open to residents of certain locations depending on where our mobile bus will be. This is typically a requirement due to the support a city is lending us to be there. We know there are many more people/places that could use our service. I wish we had 10 buses…

📣 Every Wednesday and Friday in Taylor (parked at the Taylor Animal Shelter). Priority goes to Taylor residents but there are limited spots for many residents in Williamson, Milam, Lee and Bell county (it’s zip code based).

📣 Thursday June 4th: Cameron Animal Shelter (currently not open to public surgeries, but may be so in the future).

📣 Thursday June 18th: Bartlett City Hall - must have Bartlett address

📣 Thursday June 25th: Rockdale Animal Shelter - must have Rockdale address

(we will be returning to Thorndale in July)

All animals will receive a microchip if they don’t already have one. Please contact us if your pet is nursing or has had babies in the last 3 months.

Appointments can be made online and you must get a confirmation email to know you got the spot. Facebook message are often missed so please go to our website.

We are planning a “Pet Chips and Chill” event at the end of the month with Texas Critter Crusaders. This will be free microchips and low cost anti-anxiety medication for the upcoming 4th of July festivities. Stay tuned!

And just to round out the fun, I will be in Houston on June 6th for The Empty Shelter Project-Texas and Leander on June 21 working with Ferallife Guards.
