Using the poll cap and a tendon wrap at the same time thinking about addressing the root of functionality, nerves to restore homeostasis!
✨ Follow-up on the Red Light Poll Cap ✨
There aren’t “foal sizes,” but if you’re working with a smaller head, a tendon wrap works perfectly as a substitute!
For EPM horses, the poll cap can make a huge difference. EPM affects the central nervous system, meaning the parasite causes inflammation around the brainstem and spinal cord — that’s where the nerves that control balance, coordination, swallowing, and even gut motility all begin. When those nerves are irritated, the messages between the brain and body get fuzzy — which is why EPM horses often look weak, uncoordinated, or disconnected.
Red light therapy at the poll helps calm that inflammation, improve blood and lymph flow to the brainstem, and re-energize those cranial nerve pathways. You’re essentially helping the brain and body “talk” to each other again — which is why so many horses start to relax, focus, and move more evenly after just a few sessions.
