A few weeks ago, I took a ride with my father. During the ride we made a stop at one of his people’s house. While outside kicking it, the OG shared some street knowledge that stuck with me that I have to share with you all.
He said “When people show you who they are, believe them. What they’ve done to others, in time they will eventually do to you. Right now it’s just not your turn.”
Now I shared the edited and polished version, but when he said it as raw as he did, it is something I’ll never forget. I got the message.
Black people got to be brave enough to speak their truth (respectfully of course) despite backlash.
We MUST teach our kids to take pride in who God has made them to be. You may ask why does color matter? Well, because God decided to make them that color for a reason. Not in the sense of superiority, but valuing the fact that God does everything well.

Today my maternal grandfather turns 79 years old. Anyone that knows me know that my maternal grandparents mean the world to me. So much, my grandmother considers me her youngest son 😂 I WOULD NOT be the man I am today without this man!
I always tell my children, I’m no different than any of my cousins. What has separated me as an individual is sitting in his presence, always soaking up his wisdom. Even at times when I didn’t want to listen I did. Growing up without my dad, he was my dad. So for me it was a different level of respect because of the impact him and my granny have had on my life now.
Not only did I live in their home all my childhood and majority of teenage years, I have always spent time over there. Oftentimes just sitting around listening to their stories.
At the beginning of the summer I was bummed out losing my job, but tbh it has been a blessing in disguise. It has given me a lot of time with them. Whether it is mowing their grass or sitting in the back room for hours listening to them talk. I know I won’t always have this opportunity, so I am grateful.
