When people are overwhelmed, the first instinct is usually to work harder.
But harder rarely creates clarity.
And without clarity, everything feels important.
The most effective leaders I've met don't necessarily do more.
They decide better.
They know what deserves their attention and what doesn't.
Because capacity isn't created by squeezing more into the day.
It's created by getting clear about what matters most.
The goal isn't to do everything.
The goal is to do the right things well.

A lot of stress isn't coming from today.
It's coming from everything we're already worried about next week.
The thing that hasn't happened yet.
Notice how often your mind leaves today before today is finished.
Try this:
Take one slow breath. Look around. Ask yourself.
"What actually needs my attention right now?"
Start there.

Last week we asked what needs to be exhaled.
This week, let's talk about what might be leaking.
Not all energy drains look dramatic.
Sometimes it's the meeting that should have been an email.
The phone notification that halts your focus.
The decision you've been avoiding.
The obligation you resent.
Before reaching for another coffee, ask:
Where is my energy going?
What's been draining you lately?
Most people focus on creating more energy.
But what about what's leaking it?

The highest performers I know aren't the people who can push the hardest.
They're the people who know when to recover.
Athletes understand this.
Musicians understand this.
Nature understands this.
Yet somehow at work we've convinced ourselves that exhaustion is a badge of honor. It's not.
Recovery isn't what happens after the work.
Recovery is what makes the work possible.

We spend a lot of time waiting.
Waiting for Monday.
Waiting for vacation.
Waiting for things to calm down.
But your next breath is available right now.
Not when life settles down.
Now.
One slow inhale. One longer exhale.

Two breaths.
My brother Brad's last and our son's first.
One stage.

Halfway through the year.
How are you doing... really?
Not your goals.
Not your calendar.
Not your to-do list.
You.
Before we inhale everything summer brings, maybe the better question is:
What needs to be exhaled first?
A habit?
A worry?
A commitment?
A story you've been telling yourself?
Sometimes progress isn't about adding. It's about releasing.
What are you ready to let go of?

Most people treat recovery like something you earn at the end of the day.
After the work is done.
After everything else is handled.
But that’s not how high performance works.
Recovery isn’t separate from the work.
It’s what allows the work to happen at a high level… over and over again.
Without it, you’re just cycling through stress and calling it productivity.
The best performers don’t just push.
They reset.
They recover.
They train their capacity.

Quick inhale.
Short exhale.
On to the next thing.
All day long.
Your body never gets the signal that it’s okay to let go.
Try this:
Inhale for 4
Exhale longer… 6 or 8
Let it finish.
There’s a moment at the end of the exhale where everything softens.
That moment matters.
