Just when you are starting to heal from one loss, life says, “nope.” Our maker community lost one of the nicest, most compassionate people that I have had the pleasure of calling my friend. We didn’t hang out every day, but when we did, it was we just saw each other.
This first photo is of a Kira Dashi blade that Steve made for me. He messaged me one day and asked for my new address. Next thing you know I have this beautiful piece of art.
The second picture is of a blade that he and I came up with when I went to see him in Upper Black Eddy for a whole day of forging with my bud. I will finish it one day in honor and memory of him.
The third is a knife I made at a knife class up in East Durham a few years ago. That class really changed my thought process and I got to meet some amazing people. JD () and I became partners in crime and instant lifelong friends.
I didn’t get to see Steve at the last MakersCamp, and that sucks. Over the last week while I’ve been working in the shop I have noticed both of these knives just collecting dust. When I see them I automatically said that I needed to call Steve and finally firm up plans to have me and my son come out for another fun day of forging; or thought about that amazing bbq chicken and how much I need that recipe. Maybe it was Steve making his rounds before his final farewell.
Don’t ever pass up an opportunity to spend time with people that are good for your soul. You will be missed my friend. I will forge (pun intended) on and keep seeking out knowledge to better myself as a person and a maker. Rest easy Steve!

Had a small break-in at the shop the other night. At least he cleaned up when he was done.

Here are some shots from a project that I recently finished. I built this flower bar cart for local florist . The top was outsourced to a local metal worker. You gotta love it when everything comes together perfectly in the end. I really enjoy working with other local businesses.

Starting to get into the swing of it again. French cleats going up and I’ll be hanging my clamps in that location for now. Im excited to get back into organizing my new shop. I am thinking about making a lot of new French cleat pieces to help store things along with a fold down or up desk/work surface.
