✨I wanted to be a mother so badly. My journey to becoming a mom was long and challenging, full of struggle and grief. Mother’s Day each year feels like a gasp, like I’m beholding a wonder. I am in awe that I get to be not only a Mom but the mother of my special little guy.

So singing “At Last” with the Tucson Pops on Mother’s Day last Sunday was particularly poignant. I’ve always wished to sing with an orchestra. I’ve sung with smaller string ensembles, but an orchestra is an experience like none other. Here’s a song I’ve been singing for 20 years and now means something different to me, something so dear: At Last I get to be a Mom and At Last I get to sing with an orchestra. It was a VERY meaningful day. 🥹

Thank you to , conductor and arranger, to the and to my lovely friend for sharing the stage.

🎉Yesterday, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Khris and Chita on TJF Talks, an official podcast interview series from the , featuring intimate conversations with artists, founders, and local jazz figures. I had a blast and the time flew by! Thank you TJF and and for having me and thank you Lucas behind the scenes for making everything so easy. 🥰

At 3am last night, I awoke with a jolt. 💥I couldn’t stop thinking about the last question of the interview:
“Why Does Live Music Matter?” I offered up a response that was heart-felt but overly heady - something about how the sensory experience of art can be a private moment to really learn about who you are (blah blah blah)…I do believe this! BUT my 3am “A-HA!” moment was that I COMPLETELY MISSED THE POINT of the question and the answer! 😏

Live music matters because it’s a shared experience!! It brings us TOGETHER. Even if it’s just one performer and one listener, live music is a moment in time when there is HUMAN CONNECTION. We are constantly navigating a world where we are divided and/or isolated. Live music fosters community, togetherness, and tolerance. Live music offers the chance to feel “belonging” with no need for pretense or pressure. Live music spreads joy. 🪄

I am embarrassed (and annoyed) that I missed the opportunity to express this deeply important sentiment. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Thank you for reading my 3am ramblings!! 🙏

Wishing everyone a moment of joy today 💛
