Well, we were long overdue for some decent hail and looks like several areas got some this evening.

BEFORE filing a claim, here are some good things to know:

- Find a roofer you know and trust who is familiar with hail damage. We are happy to provide a list of reputable roofers.

- If you file a claim and no damage is found, that claim is still part of your record, so never hurts to be thourough before filing.

- Be leery of any roofer that knocks on your door. Some are great, but many are not.

- Other homes being replaced in your neighborhood are a clue you might need your roof inspected by a reputable roofer. Hail damage is funny though, one home might have damage but the home next door has none due to the roof age, condition, pitch or direction the slop faces being different. Just another reason to have an inspection before filing.

- If you end up replacing your roof, use this as an opportunity to install an approved impact resistant shingle. Not only will these give you better future protection but also potentially a discount on your home insurance.
