Have you ever thought of sharing your talent with others?

If you’re an accomplished musician, teaching your skills to others can provide you with extra income while doing something you love. This sounds fairly straightforward right, but what’s involved in actually making the transition from musician to music teacher?

You don’t have to go all-in and become fully self-employed, but you can learn how to supplement your current income by teaching music part-time. As long as you are competent with your chosen instrument, or have the vocal expertise if you’re a singer, you can learn how to transfer your skills and teach others!

How to reward your students?

Here are a few ways you can reward your music students, especially children:

- for little ones, have a basket of gifts that they know you have, and have them pick a gift every time they finish learning a piece or practice consecutively every day for the month. The gifts can be small. Arrange with the parents so that they can pitch in and provide the gifts or the $ for you to get them.

- for both older and younger students, take a field trip with them to the local music store and have them choose their next book. (make sure to arrange this with parents of minors ahead of time).

- play a fun music game after each lesson if they recorded their practice time, or achieved a milestone.

-figure out what motivates them specifically and consider using that method of motivation if you are able to.

Rewarding your students can be a great motivation tool for them! When they have something to look forward to, they will most likely be more motivated to get their practice in and do it consistently. Especially if the requirement is to learn a piece well, or memorize it!
