**MYTH: You need to drink 8 cocktails a day to break even on the cruise drink package.**

Nope. Not always.

That viral rule of thumb sounds neat, but cruise math loves to be messy. Break-even depends on the cruise line, the daily package price, gratuities, drink limits, and what the package includes.

And it’s not only cocktails. 🍹

Many drink packages can include:
• Specialty coffee
• Bottled water
• Soda
• Mocktails
• Fresh juice
• Energy drinks
• Sometimes gratuities, depending on the line

So if you’re a morning latte person, a bottled-water-all-day person, and a “maybe 2 cocktails at dinner” person, your math may look different from someone counting martinis by the pool.

Before you buy, look at your actual cruise:

• Port-heavy days: Will you spend most of the day off the ship?
• Sea days: Will you hang by the pool, order coffee, grab water, and have drinks with dinner?
• Drinking pace: Do you enjoy 1 or 2 drinks, or do you like an all-day vacation sip?
• Sharing rules: Most lines don’t allow sharing packages.
• Package exclusions: Premium brands, room service, mini bars, bottles, and specialty venues may not count.
• Cabin rules: Some lines require everyone of drinking age in the cabin to buy it.

Please don’t buy a drink package because someone online said “8 cocktails or it’s a waste.” Price out your habits.

Add up what you’d order on a normal cruise day: coffee, water, soda, mocktails, juice, cocktails, wine, gratuities. Then compare it to the package price for your specific cruise line.

That’s the only break-even number that matters.
