Thank you to the RI State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program for such a beautiful tribute to an amazing woman who dedicated her life to serving others. The ABLTC Foundation honors the life and legacy of Catherine Gergora, whose compassion, laughter, and spirit touched so many. Catherine’s legacy will live on through all those whose lives she touched, we will miss you. 💙

In Loving Memory of Catherine Gergora

It is with heavy hearts that the State Long Term Care Ombudsman Office announces the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Catherine Gergora, who passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 95.

Catherine was one of nine children and lived a full, vibrant life marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering sense of justice. For more than 20 years, Catherine served as a fierce advocate for residents’ rights, giving her voice, her time, and her heart to those who needed it most. Her commitment to ensuring that every resident was treated with dignity and respect left an enduring mark on our program and on countless lives across Rhode Island.

Catherine officially retired in 2022, but her presence, wisdom, and humor have continued to echo in our halls. She was known for her quick wit, her storytelling, and her undeniable sweet tooth, especially for chocolate. Catherine could always be counted on for a good laugh, a word of encouragement, and a reminder of why our work matters.

She was sassy, smart, compassionate, and deeply loved by everyone fortunate enough to know her. The entire Ombudsman team mourns this loss but takes comfort in knowing that Catherine’s legacy of advocacy and kindness will live on through the lives she touched.

May her memory continue to inspire us all to fight as passionately and care as deeply as she did.
