A small gathering of residents, members of the police and fire departments and town officials paused at Memorial Park on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

“We live in incredibly divided times,” said Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr. “And no matter how you feel about what is going on overseas, I think all of us can agree that it’s because of these men and women who have died serving our country since World War II that we’re allowed to have the freedoms we have. It was a memorable night for members of the Johnston Senior High School’s senior class last Thursday as they were recognized for countless hours of hard work and dedication over the last four years.

“Tonight is a reflection of the all the work you have put in over the last four years,” said Principal Tim Howarth. “These students have challenged themselves academically, involved themselves in our school community and have met goals that have brought them to this night. We’re here to celebrate the many scholarships and awards made possible by the many members in our community, family and alumni.” See comments for story.
