Can I be real and outspoken with you all for a second? I dream of a future where a woman like can have a hearing without abuse. My dream is for Black women to be able to express anger and/or sadness without judgement. I choose to fight for representation, yes, but also for the joy and emotional depth we deserve.

Slide 1: Don’t get me wrong- the nomination of Judge KBJ is a historic moment. But why are we normalizing a Black woman being verbally & emotionally abused by a committee for the public to see? Why are we applauding composure during abuse? Why must Black women suffer to make history?
Slide 2: “She handled herself gracefully amongst the verbal attacks.” “She kept her composure.” …. Why was this necessary in the first place? This isn’t something to applaud. It’s something to interrogate why that was even allowed to happen in the first place.
Slide 3: The resilience you all expect of Black women is outdated. And once we celebrate her confirmation, I hope we also all think about how we can support Black Women that want to lead without trauma involved. That’s true
