News outlets have reported over the past year that the U.S. birth rate has hit an all-time low. However, there are different ways to measure fertility, and some of these methods tell a different story.

According to the General Fertility Rate (GFR) and Total Fertility Rate (TFR), fertility rates in the U.S. hit its lowest point in 2024. But looking at the number of children ever born shows stability since the early 1990s.
