In 2021, more than 29 million women ages 18-54 were mothers of children age 14 or younger. Of these mothers, 20.9 million were in the labor force. But for many mothers, their ability to work is tied to access to child care. This , CED is calling for expanded access to more affordable child care, which would enable mothers to enter, return, or remain in the workforce.
