CAEAR is monitoring closely the announced changes in income eligibility by Florida for its AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). The state has proposed a reduction in access from 400% of the poverty level to 130% of the poverty level. Changes to out of pocket costs to individuals on employer supported health care plans were also announced. While the impact of these proposed changes by Florida, combined with the elimination of the federally funded health insurance premium subsidies to Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans, we know that thousands of Floridians living with HIV will be impacted. The Ryan White HIV Care Program has not received increases in appropriations in some time, making any cuts in access a threat to life sustaining services. CAEAR calls on the state of Florida to reconsider its proposal. Now is no time to cut access to life saving medications.
