Every great song has a melody. A string of notes that together are pleasing to the listener.
When played together make a phrase or part of a song.

Hit songs have the melody in the verse and chorus.

Some songs have two or three melodies.

Another huge factor is make your song about one thing at a time. This is similar to books and movies. They never start with multiple characters. Focus on one.
