The Bahamian Bounce: A right of passage for Southeast boaters…but where and how to begin?

Everyone dreams of a trip to the Bahamas, and for boaters based in or near the southern tip of Florida it’s just about a 2-hour boat ride. That kind of access to a Caribbean dream is worth considering trying for yourself, but for those who haven’t done so before it’s more complicated than packing your boat up with supplies and filling up on gas. Licenses, documents, Fees, and more all need to be considered, and lucky for you we’ve got your Bounce to the Bahamas checklist detailed here.

Check out the full guide in our latest Summer issue, as well as all helpful links, as you plan your own Bounce to the Bahamas!

As summer officially arrives and people take to outdoor activities, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) urges the public to learn more about aquatic nuisance species and how they can be kept out of state waters.

Invasive aquatic species can cause significant ecological and economic impacts across the state, from damaging vessels and other boating equipment, to impeding access to waterbodies, to disrupting the natural ecosystem by displacing and out-competing native species. Ultimately, almost all these impacts are preventable, a message that the online certification training tries to convey.

You can even take it a step further and take the online certification training to learn more about invasive species found in or near Georgia.

Ready to get certified? Access the online ANS Certification Tool at https://georgiawildlife.com/ans. All individuals who complete the training will receive a certificate of completion and some outreach materials to enjoy.

A classic returns.

Inspired by the timeless New England skiffs that earned a loyal following across Martha's Vineyard and the Northeast, the new Tashmoo 18 blends traditional workboat character with modern craftsmanship and performance.

Built by Tashmoo Boatworks, the 18-foot skiff stays true to its roots with clean lines, seaworthy handling, and practical simplicity, while incorporating lightweight fiberglass construction, improved efficiency, and extensive customization options for today's boaters.

Whether you're cruising coastal waters, exploring shallow bays, fishing hidden backwaters, or island hopping in the Bahamas, the Tashmoo 18 is designed to deliver something many modern boats have lost: personality.

🛥️ Classic New England heritage
⚓ Custom-built to order
🌊 Shallow draft and coastal capability
🔨 Modern construction with timeless styling

For boaters who appreciate craftsmanship, character, and a story behind the helm, the Tashmoo 18 is bringing a beloved design back to life.

What drives someone to chase a world record in a Jon Boat?

For Robert Youens, it's more than speed. It's adventure, perseverance, community, and a passion for life on the water.

After setting a new fastest Great Loop record in 2025 aboard the Ageless Wanderer, Youens watched another boater claim the title just months later. Now, he's gearing up for another run in summer 2026 with co-captain Steve Hernden and a dedicated support crew determined to reclaim the record.

But this story isn't just about breaking records. It's about the impact one journey can have on an entire boating community. Through storms, setbacks, and unforgettable moments, Youens has inspired thousands of followers to get out on the water, pursue their own adventures, and celebrate the joy of boating.

Read "The Echo of Impact" in our new issue and learn why boaters across the country will be following the Ageless Wanderer's wake this summer.

🌊 Will Youens reclaim the title? We'll all be watching.
