June is a great month to get ahead on home maintenance before the heat of summer arrives.

Here are 5 items worth checking this month:

• Service your AC system. A clean filter and a quick inspection can improve efficiency and help prevent breakdowns during the hottest weeks of the year.

• Inspect decks and patios. Summer entertaining season is here, making now the perfect time to check for loose boards, railings, and trip hazards.

• Clean gutters and downspouts. Spring pollen, seeds, and debris can build up quickly. Proper drainage helps protect your roof, foundation, and landscaping.

• Trim trees and shrubs. Keeping branches away from your home helps prevent storm damage, improves airflow, and discourages pests.

• Check outdoor faucets and irrigation systems. Small leaks can waste a surprising amount of water and increase utility bills throughout the summer.

A little preventative maintenance now can save a lot of headaches later.
