🚨Fraud Alert: Protect Yourself from Check Washing Scams

We want to make our members aware of a recent increase in fraud involving checks mailed for credit card payments.

Fraudsters are intercepting checks from the mail, chemically altering (“washing”) them, and changing the payee and/or dollar amount before cashing or depositing them.

Here are a few ways to help protect yourself:

✔️ Use secure drop boxes inside your local post office when mailing checks
✔️ Use online or electronic payment options whenever possible
✔️ Monitor your account regularly for unusual check activity or altered amounts
✔️ Report suspected fraud to your financial institution immediately
