Timothy D. Haugh
Welcome to the official page of Timothy D. Prior to that, commanded the Twenty-Fifth Air Force.
in 1943, with Marine Division landed on Betio Island, Tarawa Atoll, in the Gilbert Islands. For the next 76 hours, Marines battled against intense Japanese resistance to secure the island and gain control of the critical airfield.
The initial landings were especially challenging, as low tides beached many landing craft on an offshore reef, forcing Marines to wade hundreds of yards in the open water under intense enemy fire. Despite fierce resistance and heavy casualties, by the end of the first day 5,000 Marines had made it ashore and carved out a 300m deep beachhead. Over the next two days, tanks and reinforcements made their way ashore and swept the defenders from their pillboxes, bunkers, and other fortifications.
SSgt Norman T. Hatch and other combat cameraman assigned to 2d Marine Division shot first-hand video of the battle. Their footage became “With the Marines at Tarawa”, an Oscar-winning short documentary that captures the intensity of the battle, the heroism of the Marines, and the human cost of securing the island

It was an honor to promote Gen. Darryl Williams and Lt. Gen. Steven Gilland this week and be a part of their change of command. Lt. Gen. Gilland will take over as the superintendent of the West Point - The U.S. Military Academy and Gen. Williams will move on to lead the U.S. Army Europe and Africa Command. These two men represent the best of our U.S. Army, and I know they’ll succeed in their future assignments. While at the U.S. Military Academy, I also had the opportunity to speak at the Oath Ceremony for over 1,200 our newest cadets. Their path to greatness has just begun, and I look forward to their service to our great Nation! Congratulations Gen. Williams, Lt. Gen. Gilland and the new cadets!
The Ranger Creed - repeat after me!
Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of the Rangers.
Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite Soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other Soldier.
Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one-hundred-percent and then some.
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained Soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.
Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.
Rangers lead the way!

“As a , physical fitness has a huge part in what we do, whether in the hospital or out in a field environment...You always need to be ready for whatever challenges are thrown at you, and I think by weightlifting and increasing your strength, you increase your ability to take on those additional challenges."
