Zero the One

I struggle to make sense of things lately- at least anything related to online and content makes me a bit eh (at least about me posting). Though I’m always grateful to the educators and community organizers who continue to teach and build/connect. To friends who push what’s possible, who persist/resist in the beautiful ways you know how. I know something has to change and also, that things are changing. In my quiet (IRL) moments I try and live what’s possible. Ongoing heartbreak for the things happening in the world while in a small-big way glad for the increase of tips that comes with the influx of spring tourists at the cafe I work at. The single tax / trying to stay afloat in (this) society is costly. Had an existential threat (since diffused) a few days ago which made me zoom out very quickly. Made it clear that the “seriousness” of adulthood would be for nothing without the people I love. All this effort to be “grown” only to lose the most vital instrument of the heart, to live. So yes failing at practical matters has kept me struggling so I’m learning to do better. But being good (or being bad at being fake) at falling and getting back up for love in the plural sense, made me differently able. I don’t know what I’m getting at but I want to share some things. The timeline won’t be linear but whether it matters or not - I hope you’re taking care of yourself. I hope you have loved ones who care for you and that you care about. Also, seeing those colorful laundry clips on my walk made me so happy.

Migrants bring their unique beauty and gifts everywhere they go. A fellow creative Filipina and Mindanaoan of here with her handmade jewelry. Gold / oro was rich in our land back in pre-colonial times and I love that she uses this in her work, blending her background in nursing / anatomy studies. This shoot was a while back and I realize there is so much beauty to share still ♥️
