A crowning achievement of American steam railroading, the Union Pacific 4000 Class remains one of the greatest steam locomotives ever built. Though originally intended to be known as the “Wasatch” Class, a simple chalk inscription on the first locomotive gave rise to a nickname that would outlive its official designation, forever known as the “Big Boy”.

Union Pacific 4014 + 4012 - United

It’s rare sight to see a Big Boy in operation, but even rarer to see two Big Boys side by side. During its stay of just over two weeks at the Steamtown National Historic Site, Union Pacific 4014 joins its brethren locomotive, Union Pacific 4012, giving visitors the extraordinary sight of these two steam locomotive giants standing together.
