I had a really honest conversation with Dr. Beth Capecchi on her podcast Never Perfect Faith about something I don't talk about enough: what happens when your faith falls apart.
I spent 20 years in a Benedictine monastery. Before that, I was a Marine. And at a certain point, the spiritual framework I'd built my entire life around just stopped holding. That's a terrifying place to be.
We talked about doubt, spiritual trauma, the ego games that can hide inside religion, and why so many people walk away from church not because they've lost God, but because they've lost patience with what people have done in God's name.
The thing that keeps coming back to me: real spiritual growth usually follows a pattern of order, disorder, and reorder. The breaking apart isn't the end of the story. Sometimes it's where the real story begins.
If you've ever wrestled with doubt, felt burned by the church, or wondered if questioning everything means you've failed somehow, give this a listen. You're not alone in that.
