An Environment Canada special weather statement for Calgary has been upgraded to a rainfall warning, which says heavy rain of up to 100 millimetres is expected over the next few days.

The warning Sunday says total amounts will vary between 50-100 mm and continue until Wednesday morning, adding that rain exceeding 100 mm in some localized areas is possible.

A child was taken to hospital Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle in northeast Calgary.

Police said the child was riding a scooter when they were struck by a truck near the intersection of Taracove Road N.E. and Taravista Drive N.E. just before 5 p.m. The driver stayed at the scene.

The child was conscious and transported to Alberta Childrenโ€™s Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Road closures were in place around the intersection following the collision, but have since been lifted.

According to a news release, officers responded to reports of shots fired at 520 16 Ave. N.E. just before 8 p.m.

Upon arrival, police said two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds and transported to hospital. One man has since died.

According to police, the suspects fled the area prior to their arrival and no one is in custody at this time. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and said there is no active risk to the public.

We fully recognize the impact of brazen, violent acts on the larger community,โ€ said Duty Inspector Darren Smith in the release.

โ€œPublic safety is our number one priority, and Calgarians deserve to feel safe at all times in their communities. We are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to contact police immediately.โ€

The North Hill Co-op was was placed into lockdown to keep staff and customers safe, police said. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to stay away from the area as they assess the scene.
