🧠 Mental Health Update 💡

New research suggests that friendships, especially amongst teenagers, can influence how we recognise mental health challenges and whether we seek support. While mental illness isn’t “contagious,” open and supportive friendships can encourage people to ask for help sooner.

Healthy conversations can lead to healthier lives.

Welcome to Mental Illness Awareness Month 🧠

This July, Baagi Awareness Project joins the national conversation to raise awareness, challenge stigma and promote understanding of mental illness 🙌🏽

Our theme for the month is: Chronically Online, When the digital world starts affecting the real one 📲

We live in a world where we are constantly connected. Our phones keep us informed, entertained, and in touch, but they can also leave us feeling overwhelmed, distracted, anxious or emotionally drained. For those living with mental illness, these challenges can become even more difficult to navigate 💡

Throughout July, we will explore how our digital lives influence our thoughts, emotions, relationships, and daily wellbeing, while sharing practical ways to build healthier habits online 🤲🏽

Let's start the conversation and remember: while our lives may be lived partly online, our wellbeing is experienced in the real world 🌍

Youth Day | 16 June 🇿🇦

Today we remember the young people of 1976 who stood up for dignity, equality and the right to education. What began as a peaceful student protest in Soweto became a turning point in South Africa’s history and a powerful reminder that young voices can shape the future.

As we honour their courage, we also reflect on the challenges young people continue to face today and recommit to creating spaces where youth are heard, supported and empowered 💡

The youth are not only our future, they are shaping the present 🧠
