Back in the early 1970s, Nissan secretly built a prototype called the Nissan 126X — a wedge‑shaped concept with triangular tail‑lights that changed colour depending on what the car was doing.

: A smart new idea from Nissan for future bakkies

Nissan has filed a patent for a new seat and midgate setup that could make double‑cabs a lot more practical. In simple terms, the rear seats wouldn’t just fold — they’d slide forward. When they do, the midgate (the panel between the cabin and the loadbin) can open up, giving you extra space for longer items.

There’s also an interesting twist: when the seatback moves forward, it can flip into a rear‑facing seat. Not for driving, but for when you’re parked — the kind of thing that would work well at a fishing spot, a braai, or just relaxing at the dam.

It’s only a patent for now, but it’s a clever concept that could make future bakkies a lot more versatile.
