The Large Cork Pendant.
Cork lends itself beautifully to bold, sculptural forms, accommodating thick, curved shapes that would be difficult to achieve in steel or timber due to weight, stability, and cost constraints.
As a sustainable, plant-based material with remarkable versatility, cork has inspired us to push the boundaries of scale and product design. The result is the world’s largest cork pendant: a striking statement piece with a shade spanning nearly one metre, celebrating both innovation and sustainable design.
Available in 100% natural light or dark cork, the standing version measures 2.8m high, 1.8m long and 900mm wide.
This product is also available in ceiling-mounted and wall-mounted versions.
Viewing is available by appointment at our Cape Town showroom.
In the making: a custom cork lectern for the Portuguese Ambassador to South Africa.
Designed and manufactured for a special exhibition at the Portuguese Embassy in Pretoria, the piece formed part of the National Portugal Day celebrations and a broader presentation on cork, supported by .
As the world’s largest producer of cork, Portugal has a deep connection to this natural material. For this exhibition, the lectern became a way to showcase cork not only as a sustainable resource, but as a material capable of refined and functional design.
Working with cork in this way is always a balance of precision, form and material understanding. It requires knowing how the material behaves, how far it can be pushed, and how to honour its natural character through design.
A material rooted in nature, shaped through craft and reimagined for a contemporary context.
This video was filmed in 2018 and looking back on it now feels incredibly special. It’s a reminder that while our studio has grown in ways I could never have imagined, working with many more artists, makers and collaborators than we did then, the heart of what we do remains exactly the same.
I’ve always been a collector.
Over the years, I’ve surrounded myself with objects that inspire me - carvings, sculptures, photographs and pieces that carry stories, memories and meaning. Some have influenced my work directly, while others simply remind me of the people and places that have shaped my creative journey.
One of the pieces in my collection featuring horns was something I made myself when I was just 19 years old. Looking back, it’s a reminder of where it all began.
What I love most about collecting is that it’s rarely about the monetary value of an object. It’s about the relationships behind it. Throughout my career, I’ve traded works with fellow artists and makers, exchanging ceramics, photographs and other pieces as a way of building connections and supporting one another’s creative practice.
Being based in Africa has also had a profound influence on my work. The incredible diversity of carving traditions, craftsmanship and colour found across the continent continues to inspire me every day.
Watching this video again, eight years later, feels like a full-circle moment. The scale may be different, and the community of artists we work with has grown tremendously, but the principles that guided us then still guide us today: a love for craftsmanship, creativity, collaboration and meaningful relationships.
In this video, I share some of the objects that have become part of my collection and the stories behind them.
If you’d like to experience these treasures in person, make an appointment to visit the studio. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the objects I’ve collected over the years, alongside our furniture collections and the many curiosities that continue to inspire my work.
