WHY WE VOTED FOR NO BAIL/NO BOND

UNCLE DEFILING NIECE CASE

A week ago, we received a tip from a concerned community member about a 7‑year‑old girl who was being defiled. She had already developed a fistula – a condition that left her unable to control her urine or faeces. She had undergone two operations, but instead of getting better, her condition was worsening. And not much was being done.

We immediately followed up at UTH Hospital and Mtendere Police Station.

We then placed her in a safe home. Through gentle, trauma‑informed counselling, she revealed the truth: the person defiling her was her own uncle.

Thanks to the swift action of Action Against Sexual Violence (AASEV), the Zambia Police, and Social Welfare, the uncle has now been arrested. The case is active, and we are walking with this little girl every step of the way – court, medical care, and continued therapy.

This is what happens when communities, civil society, and government work together. Survivors are believed. Perpetrators are held accountable. Justice is served.

*OFFICIAL STATEMENT BY ACTION AGAINST SEXUAL VIOLENCE*

⚖️ HISTORIC WIN FOR JUSTICE IN ZAMBIA! ⚖️

One year ago – on 5th April – we organized protests across the country and marched and submitted a petition to the Ministry of Justice demanding justice for survivors of sexual violence under the social movement Call to action against sexual violence. This movement is now formally established as an NGO and has continued the campaign.

Today, that collective voice has become law.

Act No. 4 of 2026 (Criminal Procedure Code) has been enacted.
Section 123(1) has been amended to add:
🔹 Defilement
🔹 R**e
🔹 In**st (sexual relations between close family members)

to the list of serious crimes. These sexual offences are now classified alongside other grave offences – meaning stricter penalties and non‑bailable status.

📜 These changes mean the law is now paying greater attention to these heinous acts and treating them with the severity they deserve.

This is proof: when people unite against injustice, there is nothing we cannot do.

But let’s be clear – this is not the time to relax.
✅ Legislation is one part.
❌ Enforcement is another.

We must keep pushing for:
🔹 Accountability for every perpetrator
🔹 Real institutional reform
🔹 Comprehensive support for survivors

The campaign is far from over. Let’s stay united, stay vocal, and ensure these laws save lives.

Together, we are the change. 💪
