Insights Lab Middlesex University Dubai concluded the five-month-long Roads & Transport hackathon with a fantastic virtual closing ceremony! We were surprised to see how the participants derived critical insights on the public transport dataset shared by the Dubai Taxi Corporation -RTA.
236 Teams, 18 countries, 5 months, 4 submissions!! Mehran Abul and Rupa Kumari (TCS) emerged as the overall winners, and the runner-up position was shared by Bilal Thonnam/Chuhan Yang (New York University Abu Dhabi) and Abdul Manan (Middlesex University Dubai). Special mention to Maria-Jesus Gonzalez-Martinez and team for in-depth analytical report along with Mohan Manivannan for the most innovative use-case!
This hackathon brought in a wonderful mix of industry partners to support the participants. SAS (AI partner) sponsored the event by providing all the participants with free training and software access. Thank you, Ahmed Kamal , GISP ,MBA for taking the lead on this. and being massive support for us. Accord Business Group was the technical sponsor and provided free cloud access for hackathon analytics. Beinex, RTA, and Dubai Taxi Corporation sponsored data access, training, and cash prizes.
A big thank you to Mr. Ammar Rashid (DTC) for being the backbone of this process and having the vision to shape up the analytics community. A huge shout-out to Indumon Das, Sreejith Surendran, Hamid Khan, and Beinex for partnering with Insights Lab and making continuous efforts in building a strong analytics community. On Sunday the Insights Lab in partnership with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority - HQ, DTC and Beinex launched our landmark 'Roads and Transport' research hackathon! Over 230 teams worldwide will use DTC data to build products that enhance public transport in the UAE and add business value to RTA and DTC operations. Taking place over a two-month period, the entire hackathon will also function like a virtual internship opportunity, with several training sessions organised for shortlisted candidates alongside access to mentoring.
The session was led by Mr. Ammar Rashid Al Braiki, Director of Assets Management and Innovation, DTC, and Dr Krishnadas Nanath, Head of the Middlesex Insights Lab. Dr. Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Middlesex University and Director of Middlesex University Dubai, welcomed the participants and wished them luck for the journey ahead.
