United Nations Development Programme in Afghanistan

UN Volunteers, through their local knowledge, skills, and commitment, help bridge communities and the UN, ensuring that people’s voices are heard and ownership remains rooted at the local level. In Mazar-e-Sharif, National Female UN Volunteers supported the engagement of UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo and UNHCR High Commissioner with UNDP-supported women-led savings groups, showcasing the impact of women-led initiatives and community-driven development.

What began as work to rebuild a damaged wall led to the discovery of 25 unexploded artillery shells beneath a house in Baghlan. A UNDP-supported demining team safely removed them, protecting 8 workers and 16 family members.
