Dear friends, After three months of hard work, we've officially reached the stage to launch our first ever fully functional online education platform, MAKTAB (https://maktab.app/). As soon as the Taliban banned girls from school and university (a move that deeply saddened me), with the help of other Afghan professionals, we started working on the development of MAKTAB. Before I go ahead and give you more information about the project, I should mention that using MAKTAB is free for students in Afghanistan. The project is divided into four stages:

1- In the first stage, our team worked closely with teachers and other experts to replicate Afghanistan's existing education system/curriculum. We decided to prioritise the current curriculum to enable Afghan students to continue their education while we explore other options.
2- In the second stage of the project, we are working on replicating of British educational system. The second stage will only cover science subjects (e.g., mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy). We decided to prioritise science subjects because we believe there is a high risk of the Taliban revising the existing curriculum and reducing the science subjects.

MAKTAB platform has been designed using some of the most incredible educational tools and technologies used by most universities. We spent a lot of time with volunteers in Afghanistan, learning about the in-country limitation (e.g. English language, internet speed, limited access to a computer) and designing the platform to meet in-country expectations.
