TCHINDAS bringt uns auf die sonnengetränkte Insel São Vicente, Kap Verde, wo Karneval nicht nur als Fest, sondern auch als Ausdruck von Identität und Widerstand gefeiert wird. Im Mittelpunkt dieses umwerfend lebendigen Dokumentarfilms steht Tchinda Andrade, eine charismatische und respektierte trans Frau, deren Stärke und Kreativität ihre Community verbindet. Ihr Kampf um mehr Sichtbarkeit für q***re Cabo-Verdeaner*innen wird zwar nur am Rande thematisiert, ist jedoch in jeder Begegnung mit Tchinda und ihren Freund*innen spürbar. Wir begleiten die Protagonist*innen in ihrem Alltag bei Karnevalsvorbereitungen – beim Nähen von Kostümen, Kochen, Wagenbauen sowie gemeinsamen Beisammensein. TCHINDAS verzichtet auf Interviews oder erklärende Kommentare und lässt stattdessen Gesten, Blicke und geteilte Momente für sich sprechen. Zwischen Trommelrhythmen und den handgemachten Glitzerkostümen entfaltet sich ein Porträt von Q***r Joy und Solidarität – voller Wärme, Humor und Zärtlichkeit. “Tchinda rules, end of story!”

At the heart of this vibrant documentary stands Tchinda Andrade, a charismatic and deeply respected trans woman whose strength and creativity unite her community. Her fight for wider recognition of q***r Cabo Verdeans is only briefly touched upon, yet its impact is clear in how people interact with Tchinda and her friends. We follow them through the everyday rhythms of making costumes, cooking, building floats, and simply hanging out. The film unfolds without interviews or commentary, letting gestures, laughter, and shared moments speak for themselves.
