VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENTS OF PLACES OF WORSHIP – BRUSSELS
A big thank you to all participants in the PARTESS-COM workshop held on 20 May 2026 in Brussels. The day combined expert input, a field visit, a site exercise, and group work on identifying vulnerabilities, assessing risks, and discussing suitable solutions for places of worship.
We appreciate your active participation and valuable contributions throughout the workshop. We hope participants could take away as many practical insights as possible from the site exercise.

SOFIA TRAINING COMPLETED
On 15 May 2026, a one-day interfaith capacity-building training was held in Sofia within the framework of the EU-funded PARTESS-COM project.
Thank you to all participants for their active participation and valuable contributions!
The event brought together representatives of different religious communities, public institutions, civil society organisations, human rights experts, and academic institutions. This diversity reflected exactly what effective prevention requires: different actors working together around a shared goal.
Our thanks also go to Bridges Association for hosting and partnering in the event, and to the trainers from EFI for their expert input.

LATEST INCIDENT: SAN DIEGO MOSQUE ATTACK, 5 DEAD 🕊️
The attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego on 6 April, in which five people died, shows why better protection of places of worship remains necessary.
The case points to several issues that are highly relevant for prevention work:
🔹 a possible hate-crime motive
🔹 online radicalisation
🔹 hostility directed at multiple religions and racial groups
🔹 the importance of on-site preparedness
Read article:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cg4pnp0gdlko
It also shows that prevention is not abstract. Practical measures, awareness, and preparedness can help reduce harm and save lives.
PARTESS-COM contributes to this field through training, practical resources, and stronger cooperation between communities, practitioners, and authorities.

FIELD NOTE 1: LOW-COST TOOLS, REAL IMPACT 🕊️
The first PARTESS-COM Field Note highlights a practical point: better protection for places of worship does not always start with expensive infrastructure.
Instead, this edition looks at:
🔹 everyday security measures with high practical value
🔹 exchange of proven solutions across communities
🔹 access to resources through Faith Guardian
This and upcoming Field Notes are designed to:
• inform about project progress
• share relevant outcomes
• highlight practical insights for communities and practitioners

FIELD NOTE 1: THE HIDDEN COST OF SILENCE 🕊️
Many incidents affecting places of worship never become visible beyond the immediate community. That matters, because when incidents are not reported, broader patterns can remain unseen.
The first PARTESS-COM Field Note explores this issue through the example of Faith Guardian and looks at how reporting, practical resources, and peer exchange can strengthen preparedness.
What these Field Notes aim to do:
🔹 inform readers about project progress
🔹 share relevant project outcomes
🔹 highlight practical insights for communities and practitioners
