You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

There is a popular story attributed to Buddha about a man and a raft.
A man traveling along a path came to a great expanse of water. As he stood on the shore, he realized there were dangers and discomforts all about. But the other shore appeared safe and inviting. The man looked for a boat or a bridge and found neither. But with great effort he gathered grass, twigs and branches and tied them all together to make a simple raft. Relying on the raft to keep himself afloat, the man paddled with his hands and feet and reached the safety of the other shore. He could continue his journey on dry land.
Now, what would he do with his makeshift raft? Would he drag it along with him or leave it behind? He would leave it, the Buddha said. Then the Buddha explained that the dharma is like a raft. It is useful for crossing over but not for holding onto.

We are at the point in our history where self-examination and consciousness expansion is not a luxury, but a necessity to balance the exponential noise and chaos of our material simulation we call reality. As the teacher of my teacher, the late Sunyata Saraswati once said - "We learn from our pain and suffering when we can't learn from love and joy". The choice is ours, to be in the flow or to learn from obstacles. Either way, the lessons will be repeated until learned.

Love is oneness and to experience it fully we need to dissolve all self-destructive habits that are separating us from that state. Often we confuse the various stages of this boundary dissolution with the final goal of complete oneness/love. So and we end up telling ourselves or others what we need their love to be for us. As Khalil puts it we are still being in the process of grinding to our whiteness and freeing ourselves from our husks. But love never asks or needs anything, it is content all by itself as it understands there is nothing outside it, for it's the heart of Life itself. In the end, the deepest secrets of Life will be revealed to the one who opens his heart and surrenders itself to be the fragment of universal oneness. Everything we need to know about love is contained in just a few verses of Khalil's immortal poetry.

We have mono-cultured our minds and disavowed the perceptual states all of our ancestors honored, cultivated, and trusted. Dream states, trance states, hypnagogic reverie, day dreaming, intense fasting, prayer, prolonged silent retreats in nature, ingestion of sacred plants, and more have been trusted paths to deepening our relationship with the wisdom inherent in every moment of creation.
West has led us into a cul-de-sac of over-intellectualized materialist delusions. Our humanity, our imaginations, have been shrunk to fit into the “provable,” “repeatable,” “quantifiable” lab test of what sadly passes for truth.
When we step past our enculturated doubt, we are able open to the world of awe, beauty, wisdom, and joy we easily accessed as children. Play, curiosity, and vulnerability are part of the practice. As we reanimate the world, we reanimate ourselves.
