Who decides what an archive remembers – and what it forgets?
You are cordially invited to join the Angewandte’s panel discussion Performing the Archive – The Future of Artistic Archives on the occasion of the 61st International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia.

As part of the Biennale Sessions programme 2026, the Angewandte takes the contribution of this year's Austrian Pavilion by Florentina Holzinger as a starting point to explore broader transformations in how artistic and especially performance archives are conceived, activated, and made relevant for present and future generations.
The panel brings together artists, curators, and scholars to examine what contemporary archives can and should do — with and beyond documentation. The focus is on how curatorial settings as well as performative and ephemeral artistic practices can challenge archival conventions, how the ephemeral can be archived, and what remains of a performance that was never meant to last.

Wie können Museen die Gesellschaft verändern? Welche Folgen können kuratorische Handlungen haben? Das /ecm Studienprogramm für Ausstellungstheorie und -praxis an der ist ein postgraduales kostenpflichtiges Studium. In kollaborativen Prozessen experimentieren wir mit unterschiedlichen Methoden kuratorischer Forschung, Theorie und Praxis. Dabei entstehen Diskurse, Brüche und Horizonte, die den Kanon herausfordern, Ausstellungsräume und den öffentlichen Raum besetzen sowie Museen und Sammlungen nicht nur digitalisieren, sondern vor allem demokratisieren wollen.
Das Programm richtet sich an eine heterogene Gruppe mit vielfältigen Bildungs- und Berufshintergründen und bietet zwei verschiedene Wege: a/ außerordentlicher Masterstudiengang mit Masterthese; b/ Universitätslehrgang mit praxisbasiertem Rechercheprojekt. Beide Wege finden zeitgleich als ein gemeinsames Lehrangebot statt.

How can museums change society? What consequences can curatorial actions have? The /ecm study program in exhibition theory and practice at is a postgraduate, fee-based course. In collaborative processes, we experiment with different methods of curatorial research, theory and practice. Thus, discourses, ruptures, and horizons emerge that challenge the canon, occupy exhibition spaces and the public sphere, and seek not only to digitise museums and collections but above all to democratise them.
The program is aimed at a diverse group of students with a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds and offers two different paths: a/ associate Master’s degree program with a Master’s thesis; b/ university course with a practice-based research project. Both paths are conducted simultaneously as a joint program.

From the institution to the archive, finding a feminist curatorial practice

Following a fifteen year institutional practice that culminated in the exhibition Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970 - 1990 curator Linsey Young left the Tate to pursue a PhD and independent curatorial work. This lecture will explore that journey discussing the politics of representation and contemplating potential routes to a sustainable feminist practice
Linsey Young is a curator and writer. Between 2016 - 2024 she held the position of Curator British Contemporary Art at Tate. In this role she delivered major exhibitions and commissions with artists such as Pablo Bronstein, Rachel Whiteread and Anthea Hamilton. Young was lead curator of the Turner Prize in 2016, 2018 and 2024 and In 2019 during a sabbatical from Tate she commissioned and curated Charlie Prodger’s solo exhibition SaF05 at the 58th Venice Biennale. In 2023 she curated the major exhibition and publication project Women In Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970–1990 at Tate. Young began a LAHP funded PhD at the Royal College of Art focused on British feminist art practice in September 2024 and is a member of New Curators external faculty.
