“‘My Head Stood, a Larkspur’ is about ritual. It’s about continuity, and tapestry. We all have religion; spirits that we keep to ourselves. We might be sitting under a gumtree in April or May, and we might listen as the sky comes alive with the songs of Honeyeaters. But then it gets dark, and suddenly home is very far away.

That’s how it feels to me: about men missing the point, despite their love.

So my head stood regardless”
