FUSWA
A Student-Run, Student-Led, Academic Association that provides support for ALL Flinders SW students.
This week, the South Australian Government confirmed it will not pursue mandatory registration for social workers, citing concerns about placing additional financial burdens on workers and their families during ongoing cost of living pressures.
The decision has sparked significant discussion across the profession. Supporters of registration argue that it would strengthen professional recognition, accountability, public protection, and consistency across the sector. Others have raised concerns about costs, barriers to entry, and the potential impact on an already stretched workforce.
As the peak representative body for social work students at Flinders University, FUSWA recognises that this decision will directly affect the future profession many of us are preparing to enter.
We want to hear from our members:
💬 Do you support social work registration? Why or why not?
💬 How do you think this decision will impact the profession?
💬 What does professional recognition mean to you as a current or future social worker?
Please keep the discussion respectful and constructive. We welcome a diversity of views and encourage thoughtful dialogue on this important issue for our profession.
