BikeSA welcomes Michael Tomalaris as Ambassador

We’re delighted to welcome one of Australia’s most respected cycling voices, Michael Tomalaris, as our newest BikeSA Ambassador.

During his 34-year career with SBS, Michael played a major role in bringing the world’s greatest cycling races into Australian homes. From 1996, he anchored and helped shape the network’s Tour de France coverage, introducing millions of Australians to the excitement, drama and stories of professional cycling.

His career spanned one of Australian cycling’s greatest eras, covering riders including Robbie McEwen, Stuart O’Grady, Baden Cooke, Bradley McGee, Simon Gerrans and Cadel Evans. He also covered major international events, including the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups, and worked as a respected presenter and journalist with SBS News.

Today, Michael continues to champion cycling by encouraging people of all ages and abilities to experience the benefits of life on the bike.
After joining BikeSA’s Flinders Escape earlier this year, Michael experienced firsthand the welcoming community, spectacular landscapes and shared passion that make our tours so special.

As Ambassador, he will help showcase BikeSA’s multi-day tours, inspire more people to discover South Australia by bike and promote the benefits of BikeSA membership.

Michael will also join riders on BikeSA’s 2026 Annual Tour this September through South Australia’s iconic wine regions.

"I'm thrilled to be the BikeSA Ambassador for its signature multi-day cycling experiences.
Since retiring from my 34-year broadcasting career covering world cycling, I've discovered that riding a bicycle provides benefits for the mind, the body and the soul. Cycling has become an important part of my lifestyle.
What better way to explore South Australia and its magnificent regions than by bike, taking the time to enjoy the scenery, the people, the food and, of course, the incredible wines along the way.
BikeSA's Annual Tour really hits the spot for me. I hope you'll join me to share a ride, a meal, a laugh and a story or two - and celebrate why riding a bike is such a wonderful thing to do."
