Are your sensory toys not helping? Shoved in a draw? Not being used?
Whilst fidgets & sensory toys are a valuable source of regulation & stimulation, they’re often not being used.
Here are some of my top picks from Kmart that most certainly will be used !!! (I am not affiliated with Kmart - they just do amazing things)
👉🏽4 Ball massage roller: Deep pressure activates the proprioceptive system and helps regulate the nervous system. Roll on your arms, legs or back
👉🏽Yoga Ball: Deep pressure (Roll over your back and legs whilst laying down on your tummy), sit on it and bounce, roll over it, if space bounce it.
👉🏽Weighted plush toys: the gentle weight provides proprioceptive input that can be calming and grounding.
👉🏽Spinning chair: Spinning feeds the vestibular system.
👉🏽Crash pad: Crashing & jumping onto a crash pad provides the most proprioceptive input! - have you noticed your child jumping off furniture or crashing into things?
👉🏽15 piece Large couch play: carrying, stacking & rearranging the foam pieces provides labour work great for the joints, muscles, motor skills whilst providing proprioceptive input.

Not every disability is visible.
Some challenges can be seen, while others are carried quietly each day.
Awareness begins when we move beyond assumptions and choose understanding, patience, and inclusion.
Every person’s experience is valid, whether visible or invisible. 🤍

Have you seen one of these before? 🏷️
A communication lanyard is a portable, wearable tool designed to hold visual aids, symbols, or cards for quick access, making it essential for supporting non-verbal individuals, reducing communication anxiety, and enabling communication.
It provides immediate access to tools for choice-making, emotional regulation, and behavioural support.
👉🏽Immediate Access: Typically worn around the neck, eliminating the need to search for cards.
👉🏽Reduced Anxiety: Helps individuals express needs (e.g., asking for help, water, or a break) without needing to use verbal communication.
👉🏽Behavioural Support: Silently communicate needs or strategies with others during high-stress situations.
👉🏽Visual Cues & Consistency: Supports language, routines and expectations with visuals.
👉🏽Portability: Small, lightweight, and easily accessible, making it easier to use than carrying large communication books.
👉🏽Supports Social Interaction: Helps in building self-confidence by facilitating communication in various environments.
👉🏽Custom: Make them individual with photos, icons for toilet, break, or stop, as well as emotion-regulation cards (like zones of regulation 🔵😔 🟢😁 🟡😟 🔴😡

〰️ STIMMING 〰️
Stimming looks similar .. But the reasons can be different.
The behaviour might look like rocking, hand movements, humming, fidgeting.
When we take the time to understand WHY stimming happens, our responses shift from control to care.
👉🏽Understanding builds compassion
👉🏽Compassion builds safer environments
👉🏽Guides the right support
👉🏽Protects the nervous system regulation
👉🏽Behaviour management to wellbeing
👉🏽Autonomy

Making learning resources is my favourite thing to do. 📃✂️ Being creative, individualised to meet someone’s needs, likes & style.
These resources are going into a young persons learning corner 🧠
Fun fact: I love laminating !!!

Real world Play/Support 🍴🍵🛒🛍️🌽🍎
Playing/Acting out restaurants and shops develops essential cognitive, social, and functional skills in not only children but adults who may need some support in these areas, including money management (sorting, pricing), numeracy (counting, measurement), and language development. Role-playing scenarios encourage social interaction, turn-taking, problem-solving, and empathy through pretending to be chefs, servers, or customers.
This particular set up was for children to develop these skills; for adults a larger scale could be utilised or a real supermarket/restaurant.
Key Skills Developed:
👉🏽 Cognitive skills
👉🏽 Mathematics
👉🏽 Social Skills
👉🏽 Emotional skills
👉🏽 Language & communication
👉🏽 Problem Solving
👉🏽 Creativity
👉🏽 Team work
Shop & Restaurant Ideas:
🛒Shops: Sorting items by category, setting prices, using pretend/play money, and managing a “cash register”.
🍴Restaurants: Creating menus, taking orders, cooking/preparing food, serving, and paying the bill.
These activities are effective for developing early numeracy, literacy, and life skills.

Real support means showing up through life’s changes, adapting together, and empowering every person to live their best life in their own way. With the right education, guidance, and support, even the most uncertain or unfamiliar transitions can be faced with confidence, building independence, resilience, and opportunity along the way.
🦽 💺
We are here to support in the best possible way.
