Maybe Rodney Fox and Mark Tozer's Marine Conservation and Research Centre would like to share their experience with the world too?

Next week the Marine Discovery Centre will be releasing a virtual beachcombing experience on Henley Beach, accessible for all. This project has been done in partnership with and funded by Green Adelaide. In the lead-up to the launch, we will be sharing some species that are commonly found in the Great Southern Reef and that you may find on your next beach walk.

Chiton
Chitons are a type of mollusc, related to snails and clams, with 8 overlapping shells forming an armour over their muscular body underneath. They are primitive animals, with fossil records going back almost 500 million years, even before the dinosaurs (they are sometimes fondly or not so fondly referred to as cockroaches of the sea). However, they are still around today, clinging strongly to rocks in intertidal zones around South Australia. 90% of all chitons are only found in Australia.
