After a site visit with the client we will start formulating the first draft for review, its generally a pretty thorough 2D plan that looks very much like a complete concept and gives the client a great idea before any notes are taken to move into the final planning.

A lot of the guess work is being ironed out in this process and it’s a very productive discussion when it comes to the reviewing process.

If you have a project let’s book a chat.

A design we are planting out with Ray & Monika tomorrow, wonderful clients whom we have developed this plan with over the course of the last couple of years, a little coastal haven on the Lefevre Peninsula, somewhere close to my heart as I grew up near here & have fond memories of this side of the Adelaide coast and plains.

G’day! Had a pretty productive day — spent most of it deep in a concept draft for a client property.

Before I start sketching, there’s a lot that has to happen first. Researching what’s already growing on the property, what materials are already there and worth keeping, working out how the zones actually want to sit and flow. Some sites are pretty straightforward. This one wasn’t — quite complex in terms of what’s existing, so it took a fair bit of time just thinking it through before any lines went down.

I like to put that thought in early, because once I actually start sketching, it comes together fast — and it means when I send it off for review, there might be a note here or there, but the design itself rarely changes much. It’s really just pulling together everything the client’s told me, everything I’ve picked up on site, into one draft.

If you want your property looked at this thoroughly before a single design decision gets made, get in touch — link in bio to book a chat with me!

The cheapest garden design quote you get will probably cost you the most money.
Here’s why.

When a design doesn’t start with the right species for your bioregion — plants with no genetic connection to your specific piece of land — you spend years fighting it. Wrong selections means poor establishment. Poor establishment means irrigation dependency. Irrigation dependency means water bills, maintenance costs, and a garden that never actually settles into the landscape.

Then there’s the documentation. If a contractor doesn’t have a properly dimensioned, well drawn out and specified package, they fill the gaps with whatever’s cheapest and easiest. Not what was designed. Not what was specified. What’s the stock standard thats available at the general nursery.

Good ecological design costs more upfront because it’s doing more work. It’s researching. It’s specifying properly. It’s documenting in enough detail that nothing gets lost between the drawing and the ground.

The clients I work with understand that. They’re not looking for cheap. They’re looking for right.

If that’s you — the link to book a Project Discovery Consult is in the bio.
