A challenging 1960’s layout, reinvented.

For this project, the challenge lay in transforming a 1960s house. It was outdated and restricted in planning -particularly its utilities and overall layout. Back then, the utilities were often pushed to the back, limiting the flow within the home and restricting any connection to the outdoor spaces.
The garage was awkwardly positioned, and the pool, while unique in shape, was oddly placed, diminishing its role as a central feature of the home’s outdoor space.

It was essential to start with a reconfiguration that could create more robust connections within the home and with the outdoors. Modern spaces are about fluidity and seamless transitions - something the existing floor plan was lacking.

Our focus was not just on aesthetics, but also on creating functional family spaces. We aimed to open up the house towards the north and make the pool a more integrated part of the home’s outdoor experience. This involved realigning the rooms and corridors to flow naturally towards these features, eliminating the disjointed feel that the original layout had. The kitchen and living areas now become central hubs, positioned to maximise views and access to the outdoor spaces, while creating gathering points for the family to interact. Every space in the home now has a purpose, promoting togetherness and comfort.

Neutral Nuance in the Hills.

This Adelaide Hills project celebrates calm ambiance, highlighting distinct materials, textures, and timeless design all through its carefully chosen selections.

It’s a play on materials and colour but in the simplest of ways. Neutrals can be the unsung heroes of interior design, offering versatility that creates balance and harmony in any space. Whether you lean toward minimalism, bohemian vibes, or a more traditional aesthetic, neutral tones allow other design elements to shine, acting as a canvas for layers of texture, color, and personality. They can foster a soothing, cohesive atmosphere that effortlessly adapt as your interior style evolves.
