POLICE SEEKING TRUCK DRIVER IN VICINITY OF KORIELLA COLLISION AS MAY HAVE WITNESSED THE INCIDENT
FROM POLICE MEDIA 3.16PM: Two women have been airlifted to hospital after a truck and car collided in Koriella this morning.
Police were called to the scene, at the intersection of Maroondah and Goulburn Valley highways, following reports of the collision about 9.45am.
The pair inside the vehicle were initially trapped before they were freed by emergency services.
Both women, the driver aged in her early 20s, and the passenger aged 70, were airlifted to hospital with the passenger believed to be in a critical condition.
The male driver of the truck was lucky to escape serious injury.
Officers believe there was another truck in the vicinity of the collision and the driver may have witnessed the incident. It is believed he stopped at the scene but left before police arrived.
Mansfield Highway Patrol are appealing for the driver to come forward and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
UPDATE 2.58pm - The road has now re-opened.
PREVIOUSLY: TRAFFIC DIVERSION. The Maroondah Highway is currently closed after the Koriella turnoff, heading towards Yarck, due to a collision. Traffic is being diverted along the Goulburn Valley Highway then via the Maroondah Link if heading towards Yarck.
