Key benefits of installing a Root Barrier around your pool:

1. Protects Pool Structure From Tree Root Intrusion- Tree roots naturally seek moisture and can move toward your pool's plumbing and shell.

2. Preserves Surrounding Landscaping- Without a barrier, trees may need to be removed if they become a threat to the pool.

3. Protects Underground Services- Barriers stop tree roots from impacting or breaking underground services/assets and reduce the risk of disruptions or hazards.

4. Prevents Movement of Pool Surrounds- A barrier can stop upward pressure, preserving the integrity and usability of the pool area.

5. Improves Long-Term Stability of the Pool Zone- By controlling soil moisture and tree root behaviour, barriers help to maintain consistent soil conditions, reduce reactive soil movement and ensure long-term stability of surrounding structures.

6. Saves Money on Repairs and Maintenance- Tree root related damage can be extremely expensive. Installing a barrier is a preventative measure that extends the life you your pool and hardscaping, avoids unexpected repairs and protects your investment long-term.

7. Eco-Friendly Solution- Root Barriers help balance the needs of the pool and landscape by, allowing healthy tree growth without removal, reducing groundwater intrusion toward the pool and minimises chemical interventions.

8. Customisable to Site Conditions- Modern barriers (e.g., HDPE, moisture-control barriers or UPGI) can be shaped around existing structures, fit into tight spaces or complex landscapes and provide engineered solutions based on soil, tree species and pool design.

Our team have installed a Root Barrier in conjunction with UPGI (under path growth inhibitor). Moisture trapped naturally under the driveway provided a good food source for a nearby Fig tree.

The driveway was removed exposing the network of tree roots hiding beneath. These roots were removed and UPGI was applied in the subgrade with a Root Barrier installed along the edge.

UPGI creates a zone under the structure which is outside the pH range that trees like to feed on. Roots in the this immediate area will not develop to damage the driveway. The roots instead will find a more suitable food source allowing them to support and feed the tree.

What do we do in Spring? PLANT TREES!

A great example of Root Growth from a recent trench our team excavated. This trench was 1200mm deep, and shows how far down the tree root system is. The tree in question was a Fig tree and is located 10m away from the Root Barrier. Our client had these roots enter their plumbing and exited through their shower drain.

Root Barrier collaborates with Australia's leading infrastructure providers.
From providing advice, supplying products all the way to installation services.

Using our Pipe Trench method, we were able to encapsulate new electrical cables running alongside a main highway.

Match Point!

Our team have been busy installing Root Barrier around a tennis court!

This method provides protection from nearby Roots growing under and uplifting the court, but also reduces the amount of moisture change underneath.

Pipe trench install.

This method is used to prevent roots from reaching pipes and services.

In conjunction with the Root Barrier, we use our UPGI product. This is made from a bentonite base with a blend of additional ingredients that creates a pH level disliked by roots.

By creating a slightly saline pH zone around the pipes, roots will seek moisture elsewhere, which keeps them safely away from your pipe infrastructure.

A Root Barrier Cut-Off Wall is not only a solution for tree root management, but to also minimise shrinkage of reactive soils.

By placing the cut-off wall around the structure, this will create an island effect and keep the change in moisture content to a minimum. The cut-off wall will effectively disconnect the tree from the moisture under and around the structure's slab/foundations.

The Root Barrier team have installed a cut-off wall within a new housing development to future proof, prior to the planting of trees.

Green spaces like this, are designed and constructed with a focus on efficiency and minimal impact on the environment. They incorporate practices that reduce carbon footprint, energy consumption, and water usage. These spaces utilize sustainable building materials and promote better indoor air quality. Beyond the building itself, green spaces offer a unique blend of economic, environmental, and social benefits:

Stress Reduction: Spending time in green spaces can alleviate anxiety and depression symptoms, reduce stress hormone levels, enhance mood, and boost overall feelings of happiness and well-being.

Improved Cognitive Function: Nature can boost attention, memory, and creativity due to its calming effects and reduction in sensory overload.

Stronger Immune System: Exposure to phytoncides released by plants in green spaces strengthens immunity and aids white blood cells in fighting illness.

Better Sleep: Green spaces improve sleep quality and duration by promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Natural light and fresh air also help regulate the sleep-wake cycle.

Physical Activity: Spending time outdoors encourages physical activity, benefiting both physical and mental health. Outdoor exercise offers an extra mood boost, reducing sadness and fatigue.

Moreover, green spaces play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation by providing habitats for a wide range of plant and animal species. They also serve as natural filters, effectively absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Root Barrier allows green spaces like this to be built within your infrastructure.
