What wonderful news to share today! Congratulations to all Queenslanders recognised in the King's Birthday Honours, and in particular to two familiar and much loved faces in our community who have been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.
Usha Chandra has dedicated decades of her life to multicultural engagement and supporting Indian-Australian community initiatives across Brisbane and Queensland. It is a richly deserved recognition of her tireless commitment to bringing communities together and celebrating the cultural diversity that makes our city so special.
And to Ken Roma, President of the Kedron Wavell RSL Sub Branch Inc, congratulations on a thoroughly deserved OAM. Ken's dedication to supporting veterans and his outstanding leadership within the RSL community reflects everything that is best about service to others.
To both Usha and Ken, our community is so proud. What a wonderful and fitting honour.

Getting out and about in the ward has its perks, and my camera roll tells me meeting a lot of four legged friends is one of them! ππΎ

Today is World Environment Day, a reminder that caring for our environment starts with the small things we do each day. πΏ
Our community is surrounded by beautiful parks, bushland, waterways and green spaces that make this such a wonderful place to live. But keeping them that way takes all of us.
Whether it is choosing to recycle, reducing what we send to landfill, planting native species in our gardens, picking up litter on a morning walk or simply taking a moment to appreciate the natural spaces around us, every small action adds up.
A big thank you also to the Bald Hills Bushies, St Paul's School and all of the local environment groups who give their time to care for our ward's natural spaces. Your contribution does not go unnoticed. πΏ

Have you got hazardous waste at home that you are not sure how to dispose of safely? β οΈβ’οΈ
Brisbane City Council is holding a free Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day this Saturday 6 June at the Ferny Grove Resource Recovery Centre from 7:30am to 3:30pm.
Household hazardous waste includes everyday products such as bleach, petrol, garden and pool chemicals and cleaning solvents. Items that are corrosive, flammable, explosive, toxic or poisonous should never go in your regular bins, so this is a great opportunity to dispose of them safely and responsibly.
A reminder that items must remain in their original containers and should not be mixed. For a full list of accepted items and more information, head to the link below. π
