Running is an excellent form of exercise that offers numerous benefits for our physical and mental well-being. It improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles and bones, and boosts overall fitness. However, pain while running can be common, hampering enjoyment and progress. If you're experiencing pain during your runs, it's crucial to identify the underlying causes and seek appropriate care.

Remember, seeking professional help early on can help prevent chronic pain and promote long-term running success.

Did you know physiotherapist Chelsea has completed extra training to be certified to run GLA:D (Good Living with Arthritis: Denmark) and PD Warrior classes?

A little about our programs:

GLA:D is an education and exercise program designed for people with hip and knee osteoarthritis. It’s based on strong research and focuses on teaching you more about your condition while guiding you through specific, supervised exercises to improve strength, control, and function. The aim isn’t just short-term pain relief, but helping you move better and stay active with more confidence in your joints day to day.

PD Warrior is a specialised exercise and education program designed for people living with Parkinson’s disease. It focuses on high-energy, neuro-active exercises that aim to challenge the brain and nervous system, helping to improve movement, speed, balance, and overall confidence in daily activities.

The palmaris longus is a small tendon in the forearm that runs down into the wrist. Interestingly, not everyone even has it — around 10–15% of people are actually born without it, and it doesn’t affect hand function at all if it’s missing!

When it is present, it can sometimes become irritated, particularly with repetitive wrist or grip-based activity. We’ll often see this in people who are doing a lot of:

- typing or desk work
- gym training (especially gripping or lifting)
- manual work or repetitive wrist loading

When it’s irritated, symptoms can include:
- a dull ache or tightness in the wrist/forearm
- discomfort with gripping or wrist flexion
- sometimes a small, tender band just above the wrist crease

If you have wrist pain, it's worth getting a physio assessment as treatment approach can be different depending on what's driving the pain.
