Vets For Compassion

This kangaroo was called in to Wildlife Victoria early one morning. A kind-hearted local had spotted him, taken down the exact location and made the call. By the time a volunteer reached him though, he'd already passed away.

His story didn't end the way we'd hoped. But it's still one worth telling, because the call still mattered.

From a passing car, you often can't tell whether an animal is alive or not. Many that look beyond help can still be hanging on, and the only way any of them get a chance is if someone stops and calls it in. So please, call every time, no matter how light the knock felt, how fast you were going, or whether they hopped off afterwards. It's always worth checking.

So many animals are never called in at all. They're left suffering on country roads where the speed limit is 100km/h, and no one ever knows they were there.

A few things that help:
💙 Slow down around dawn and dusk, when kangaroos are most active.
💙 Good driving lights give you more time to see one and stop.
💙 And it helps when councils and property owners keep roadsides maintained, so animals are easier to spot before it's too late.

This kangaroo was found because one person cared enough to stop. That's what we're asking of everyone.
